Bothell is home to the University of Washington, Bothell which became a four-year degree-granting institution in the fall of 2006. It is also home to Cascadia Community College. The two institutions share the same campus, which opened in the year 2000, and are closely linked. After becoming accredited in 2006, Cascadia Community College was named the second best community college in the nation, behind Atlanta Technical College.
Pop Keeney Stadium, located in Bothell, Washington, hosts games for several high schools in the region, including Inglemoor, Woodinville, and Bothell High School. Pop Keeney has also hosted state soccer playoffs for both boys and girls. The stadium is named after Harold ‘Pop’ Keeney, Bothell’s first football coach, who formed one of Bothell’s pioneer families. When football season begins, the city virtually shuts down, and as Bothell High School Alum Michael Hartvigson stated, “the lights in the city are at Pop Keeney.” In the 2014-2015 school year, Bothell High School’s varsity football team won State Championships, Go Cougs!
Mill Creek was officially incorporated on August 30, 1983. The city has rapidly grown with a large number of families and jobs and now contains a mixed-use, city-sponsored complex called Mill Creek Town Center. Before the turn of the 21st century much of Mill Creek was woods, but in recent years many homes and apartment complexes have been built throughout the city. This has attributed to a much larger High school, going from a 2A school at its inception (1994) to a 4A school at around 2,000 students. It contains a large part of the green belt in the south-eastern part of town.
